Shayla: “I don't think so. Jay is my boyfriend. He helped me when I didn't have anywhere else to go. I thought human trafficking was when someone is kidnapped or forced to go somewhere. I chose to move to Calgary with Jay.”

Shayla: “I don't know. Things weren't always like this. Jay can be really nice and supportive, and he was there for me when I needed him. Sometimes he still is. But now I feel like I have to be careful about everything I do because I don't know what mood he'll be in. He says he's stressed and that I make things harder when I don't do what he asks.”
-
Shayla: Maybe. Jay has been asking me to meet men, and I have met some of them because he says we need the money. I don't really want to do it, but at least I'm helping with the bills and creating less stress for Jay to take care of me. I’m scared of what will happen if I say no, and I don't know where I would go if I left. I just want somewhere safe to stay and someone to help me figure out what I can do.”
